Tiles Gallery

The “Moonlit Sea” tiles in this one-of-a-kind backsplash were designed and created by Susan Springer and Illahe Tileworks.  These hand crafted and hand painted ceramic tiles measure 6” x 9” and are part of Illahe’s “Memory Series.”  The decorative tiles were installed directly onto the wall, framed by custom slate grey field tile from Illahe.  The resulting backsplash provides an elegant finishing touch to the kitchen and complements the Asian theme in this exquisite home.

An art and home furnishings gallery expanded a showroom in an older building with cement floors and non-square walls.  The entry was directly off the street, which required a water and mud-tolerant surface.  One of the main goals of the furniture designers was to revive and restore salvaged furniture and objects d’art.  The tile floor designed by Susan Springer and Illahe Tileworks repeats this emphasis with hand made tile in a wide variety of colors, recycled glaze and recycled marble mosaic.
The floor is made primarily from 4” x 4” hand made tile, some cut on site into wedges and triangles, and 2” x 2” tile squares.  Other tile was broken on-site for detail mosaic and accent.  Two colors of marble were broken up for mosaic bands.  The tiles feature bright contrasting colors, many in greens and golds, tans, whites and blacks.  The effect is a lively energetic circular pattern sweeping into the gallery.  It measures 181 square feet.

Whether the setting for your home is forest, field, or beachfront, Illahe Tileworks  has (or can make) tile to complement your surroundings.

This curved countertop posed a special challenge to Susan Springer and Illahe Tileworks.  Wedge shaped tiles were designed to fit perfectly into the countertop.  What’s more, the client required a non-standard shade of blue for the tile glaze.  Susan Springer’s expertise in glaze development paid off as she was able to produce just the right shade of blue for this beautiful project.
